The PlayStation Portable is one of the most versatile and enjoyable tech gadgets on the market. You can do pretty much anything you could possibly think of on the bad boy. Play games (of course), watch movies, listen to music, view photos, read comics and books, find where you're going using GPS (very soon), and cook yourself toast and scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Okay, that last statement may not be possible on the PSP. But rest assured Sony is working on it. Seriously though, with all of these cool functions that the system has, it would only be fair to provide your little handheld behemoth with the proper accessories to keep it protected and working in perfect condition while it busts it's behind to entertain you daily. And trust me, there's a TON of PSP accessories out there on the market. Due to the fact that there's so many we thought the topic would make for an excellent post here at Strictly PSP.
So sit back and relax as we run you through all of the neccessary accessories you need to spend your hard earned cash on to not only protect your PSP but also get more enjoyment out of the thing. If that's even possible. From screen protecters to memory sticks. Car chargers to cases... here is our list of the best of the best. Accessories proving themselves not only to be effective in what they promise to do, but also being a great value for their price.
PSP Case : Probably the most important accessory maybe second only to a big, awesome memory stick of course, is a case. You always want to be prepared and keep your handheld out of harm's way in case one day you were to... *gasp* ... accidentally DROP it! (God forbid.) And there are countless cases out there. Many work well and we wish we had time to list them all and the same goes for many of the accessory categories we will be covering here, but unfortunately we do not. So for our money when it comes to PSP cases, your best bet is...
The PlayGear PocketManufacturer: Logitech
Price: $14.99
The PlayGear Pocket is widely considered to be the most sturdy and reliable PSP case on the market. And the best part is unlike many cases out there, it is designed so that you can leave it on while you're playing your PSP comfortably. The only downside to this case is that currently there is only a version out there that will fit the original "phat" PSP. Logitech is working on solving this problem with their new PlayGear Pocket Slim which is slated for release in August.Memory Stick:Okay, so you've got a ton of ideas for songs and movies and such to put onto your PSP. Great. Problem is... the painfully small memory stick that came with your PSP in your Daxter bundle is way too small to hold all that multimedia, right? Bummer. Upgrading and buying a larger memory stick is neccessary for 99% of PSP lovers and they can get mighty expensive sometimes. So before plunking down all that cash, you want to know which one is best?
SanDisk 4GB Pro Duo Memory StickManufacturer: SanDisk
Price: $59.99
SanDisk's Pro Duo sticks have been recognised as the most reliable and cheapest memory sticks available for the PSP for years now. They are even considered to be better performing sticks than Sony's own first party ones. Add to the equasion that they are cheaper as well and we have a winner, folks. Also, be on the lookout for SanDisk's 8GB stick that is on the way soon. It will retail for $99.99Screen Protectors: It is widely considered a neccessity among PSP fanatics that you must buy screen protectors for your PSP. They say the screen, while beautiful and amazing, is very fragile and must be properly protected unless you want to wind up with some very annoying blemishes that can ruin your experience while playing. We wouldn't know since we took everyone's advice and purchased protectors. Maybe the screen isn't all that fragile if you take care of your system properly and possibly it's just paranoia. Who knows? But it's always better to be safe rather than sorry. Here are the screen protectors we use with great results and recommend to you as well...
Pelican PSP Screen Protector Two PackManufacturer: Pelican
Price: $9.99
Widely considered to be the best screen protectors on the market, Pelican has recieved numerous great reviews from happy customers that purchased these protectors with great results. Note, it may take a few tries to get the thing on properly, but be careful and slow while applying your screen protector and you should be in good shape. Again, highly recommended to not only protect your screen from dings and scratches, but dirt and dust as well. They'll save you money in the long run and keep your PSP looking like new.Car Charger: If you're planning on taking your PSP on long trips and such, as I'm sure most people do, having an efficent car charger is a must. There are probably literally hundreds of different chargers out there for the PSP and to pinpoint which one is the best would probably be impossible. But we prefer this one since hey, we know it works and not only will it allow you to charge the PSP from your car, but you can also hook this baby up to your PC or your PS2 to charge up your PlayStation Portable.
Pelican PSP Car AdapterPublisher: Pelican
